Hugh Collins-Rice

21st October

Our Parish Breakfast guest today was our Churchwarden Hugh, who shared how he had started composing music at the age of 12, about his early years in Wantage, and his subsequent involvement with music and the Church since then.

At the start of the 10.00am service Julie announced the appointment of the new Priest in Charge.

20th October

The Quiz 'n' Chips evening was won by The Heretics, with nearly £200 being raised in the raffle for TRAIN, a Didcot organisation that provides detached youth workers in the town. TRAIN sent their own team to compete and came third, only four points behind the winners.

14th October

We had the pleasure of welcoming the Revd Angela Tilby to celebrate and preach at both our services in which she inspired and challenged us. At the Parish Breakfast she told us about her time at the BBC; the changing role of women, both in and out of the Church, and her work at as a Canon at Oxford's Cathedral (as it is now called).

7th October

At the Parish Breakfast Jenny Loader told us something of her journey through life; we were then joined for our Harvest festival service by members of the ATC. Following our Parish Harvest tea, the choir led a choral evensong which included Ayleward's setting; Stanford's Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in Bb and anthems "Praise O praise the Lord of Harvest" and "Praise to God in the highest" by Eric Thiman and S Campbell respectively.

30th September

At the 10.00am service Corey Taylor Johnson and Thomas Yarker were baptised. In addition to their families, friends and the regular congregation this special day was witnessed by members of Northbourne school who had been especially invited after they had an RE lesson in church where they learnt about the meaning of this service.

29th September

A working party attacked the overgrown hedge between the car park and neighboring houses. Two hours hard work transformed the skyline. The work had been postponed over the summer in order to avoid disturbing birds during the nesting season. Many thanks to all involved.

25th September

Twenty three members of St John's Guild enjoyed a day trip to Yarnton Garden Centre, just north of Oxford. Transport was on the Wallingford coach and the Garden Centre Restaurant supplied an excellent meal.

23rd September

We welcomed Michael Beasley, Director of Mission for the Diocese, back to St Peter's to celebrate and preach at both services. At the Parish Breakfast he talked about the Year of 'Making a Difference' and we learnt of a number of ways that the Church and its members are serving the community. Michael concluded by encouraging us to celebrate by going along on 27th October to The King's Centre in Oxford.

15th September

The first of the new season's Quiz 'n' Chip evenings not only brought victory to the Choir team, but also raised over £170 for the Oxfordshire Scout's Gang Show. The questions (and answers) were supplied by members of the Youth Group.

9th September

We were delighted to welcome back Revd Keith Kinnaird to preside & preach at the 10.00 service. Keith was Curate at St Peter's 34 years ago when the current building was being constructed, but nevertheless still remembered many people and events with affection. (see newspaper report of the first confirmation service)
