MusicSt Peter's Church has a proud musical tradition stretching back over the last seventy five years. It's choir is a mixed one of about 20 singers, which sings each Sunday at the 10.00am Eucharist, on Feast Days, special services, and at a full choral Evensong once a month. It has been affiliated to the RSCM (Royal School of Church Music) since 1945 and regularly sends choristers to participate in RSCM courses. It is an ambitious and talented four part choir which includes both adults and children with a range of musical abilities and interests - most can read music and some members have significant musical experience at a professional level. Many of the young people who have joined the choir have gone on to study music at higher education and many are still active as church musicians.
The ever expanding repertoire of the choir is varied and includes many anthems from the 16th to the 21st century and has included some first performances of new works. Mark Stanley is the Organist and Musical Director. He is a professional musician who has held the post since 1995. St Peter's choir are a friendly group of people who welcome newcomers. Choir practice is held in Church on Friday evenings (6.00pm for trebles, 6.30 for adults). The choir usually manages to muster a team for the Church's Quiz 'n' Chips competitions, but unfortunately its joint general knowledge doesn't always equate to its musical ability! If you are interested in joining, please contact us.
